Thyroid disorders in psychiatric patients: a descriptive study in a psychiatric hospital

Introduction Thyroid disorders can present with psychiatric symptons similar to depression, and, at the same time, certain treatments, like litio, cause changes in thyroid function. Given, therefore, importance for treatment and care of patients, study function is one parametres that should be requested patients pathology. Objectives To frequency who where admitted a short stay unit. Methods Retrospective descriptive observational carried out acute unit hospital. As sample, all over period three months. During admission, their sociodemographic data, they receive diagnosis are recorded. Secondly, blood test performed whith differents parameters, including TSH values. Results In total sample 172 8 them have abnormalities. 7 them, women, hypothyroidism A single male patient presented values hyperthryroidism.
